MCMF - MCMC Iftar Program 2018

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett in partnership with the Montgomery County Muslim Foundation and the Montgomery County Muslim Council hosted Iftar Dinner on June 5, 2018 at EOB Cafeteria.

The event was attended by more than 450 guests which included large number of Montgomery County Residents of diverse faith, ethnicity and background. This included faith leaders from Muslim, Christian, Jewish , Buddhist and Hindu faiths. The event was also attended by Ike Leggett (County Executive), Roger Berliner (Council Member) and Marc Elrich (Council Member), George Leventhal ( Council Member). In addition to the above, US Congressman John Sarbanes was also present in the event.

Beside the elected representatives, several Senior County and State Officials attended the event which included representative from the Office of Montgomery County Police, Officials from Human Right Commission, Chuck Short, Rev. Mansfield Kaseman , Bruce Adam, Mayor of Rockville City as well as Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh and several others like Terry Lierman.

The highlights of the event was presentation of letter of Appreciation to Ike Leggett, County Executive for his patronage and support to Montgomery County Muslim Foundation and his leadership. He was presented a special Handmade Pottery of 16 th Century design depicting Carnation and Tulip which were the state Flowers of Ottoman Empire. He was also presented tapestry having words of Wisdom and advice from renowned 12 th century Sufi Poet Jalaluddin Rumi.

While presenting the above Mr. Tufail Ahmad expressed his tributes to the County Executive in eloquent words for his support to MCMF .

In his speech ,Mr. Ilke Leggett appreciated the contribution being made by resident Muslims in diverse professions and trades in the Montgomery County. US Congressman John Sarbanes in his address admired the significant role played by the Muslim community in Maryland in different fields and walks of life. Similar sentiments were expressed by Attorney General Brian Frosh in his address.

Two members of Muslim Community, Mohammad Aslam and Walid Hafiz were also Awarded Community Service Award in appreciation for their contribution and service to the community.

The Guests were served with sumptuous Dinner consisting of exotic Pakistani dishes.
